Our Neighborhood, Our Plan: At Last, Oakland 2025 is Complete

You’ve worked diligently to make sure your voice was heard. Now you can see the fruits of your labor. The Oakland 2025 Master Plan: A Vision for Sustainable Living and Mobility is complete, and it’s live on our website for you to read and share with your neighbors and colleagues. The document outlines strategies that will guide and support Oakland’s continuing growth as the region’s center of innovation and technology and support the quality of life in Oakland’s residential neighborhoods; it also includes a variety of compelling images and maps that illustrate the Oakland you hope to see by the year 2025.  Click here to read the plan; scroll down to leave your comments for us.

To recap what’s been done, think back to March 2011, when we hosted the Oakland 2025 Kick-Off Event to get the process started. Since then, 55 community dialogue sessions, 4 public meetings, 4 community design workshops, a week-long open house with a “pop-up” storefront, 4 hands-on community “walk-shops”, 2 early action teams, 4 draft presentation sessions and dozens of individual stakeholder interviews have engaged over 400 community members in a participatory process that is unprecedented in Oakland.

But the fun has only just begun. We hope you’ll join us on Thursday, November 1st for The Oakland 2025 Release Party, where we’ll celebrate this milestone in Oakland’s history. You’ll have the opportunity to pick up your copy of the plan, learn about the implementation steps moving forward, and take your pledge to be a part of reclaiming Oakland’s future. Enjoy refreshments, giveaways, and networking opportunities with the hundreds of people who have united to make this dream a reality. The party will take place from 6-8pm at the University of Pittsburgh’s Alumni Hall, located at 4227 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. To RSVP or inquire about event transportation or childcare, contact Tara Sherry-Torres at 412.621.7863 ext.17 or tarat@opdc.org.
