We build a better Oakland and help neighbors thrive.

Oakland Planning and Development Corporation is a nonprofit, community development organization serving community needs in Pittsburgh's vibrant education and medical hub since 1980. We provide affordable rental housing, renovate homes for homeowners, advocate for and organize residents, offer workforce development and financial coaching, and help youth succeed in high school and beyond. Guided by The Oakland 2025 Master Plan, OPDC’s vision is to make Oakland a beautiful, well-designed, sought-after neighborhood, in which a diverse mix of residents and visitors flourish.

about oakland

Oakland’s residential landscape includes everything from the stately high-rise apartment buildings in North Oakland to historic Victorian single-family homes in the Oakland Square Historic District.  Residents enjoy river corridor views, historic craftsmanship, proximity to parks, convenient transportation access, and close-knit neighborhood associations.  Though perceived by many as a college town, Oakland is actually one of Pittsburgh's most diverse communities, with 20,000 residents ranging from children to seniors, renters to homeowners. There is a lot to discover in Oakland’s four neighborhoods: Central Oakland, North Oakland, South Oakland, and West Oakland.

take action: oakland matters

It's no secret that Oakland has world-class institutions, cultural and recreational amenities in its central business district. It is also true that when you look beyond Forbes and Fifth Avenues, you'll find communities of people who have lived here for generations. As neighborhoods across Pittsburgh grapple with rising housing costs and a rapidly changing development market, Oakland is no exception. The urgency for Oakland residents to maintain neighborhood stability and to access affordable housing, transit, and economic opportunity is strong. OPDC connects community members to the information, programs, and resources they need to ensure a strong, healthy neighborhood.
