OUR MISSION
OPDC works to build affordable housing, expand economic opportunities, promote inclusive neighborhood planning, and advocate for public policies that support all of Oakland's residents - especially the most vulnerable.
What we do
We provide affordable rental housing, sell homes to homeowners, organize and advocate for residents, and facilitate planning processes.
Our Vision
We envision Oakland as a sustainable, mixed-income neighborhood where people come together to create an inclusive community. Oakland celebrates its diversity, fosters affordability, and thrives with vibrant businesses, shared spaces, rich cultural opportunities, and abundant green spaces.
Our Values
We value Oakland’s neighborhoods as places of true community.
We value inclusive planning, with input from as many neighbors as possible.
We value giving people access to opportunities and tools for success.
We value collaboration among neighbors and prioritize partnerships.
We value sustainability in all our programs and practices.
Oakland is not a closed system. Growth and change can be welcoming and inclusive. We choose to draw people in.
Welcoming and inclusive applies to existing residents; we work to maintain a multigenerational family presence where possible.
OPDC works together with others to deliver programs.
We value vibrancy and the many ways it can show up.
Diversity and Inclusion Statement
We affirm and celebrate diversity of thoughts, ideas, beliefs, experiences, and the inclusion of all people regardless of their race, range of mental and physical ability, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, political perspective, nation of origin, family structure, marital status, education background, financial means, or age. We are an equal opportunity employer and housing provider.
Anti-Racism Statement
OPDC is an anti-racism organization. We strive to create an environment where all our employees and community members are valued, regardless of their race, skin color, immigration status, or faith. We recognize that as a community development organization, we must be willing to identify and have uncomfortable dialogue about the systems of oppression that challenge us in all areas of our work.
Equal Housing Opportunity
We are pledged to the letter and spirit of the policy of achievement of equal housing opportunity. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing on the basis of race, religion, gender, national origin, disability, family status, or age.
