October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please join us for a workshop on recognizing the signs of intimate partner violence and learning how to intervene. Representatives from Pittsburgh Action Against Rape, Womens Center and Shelter, and Prevention at Pitt will join us co-facilitate the workshop.

A tsunami of trash has taken over Oakland. What can we do to survive? It overflows onto sidewalks, blocks pathways, attracts rats, and poses health risks for passers-by and residents.

Come share your concerns about Oakland’s trash problem and help us identify solutions. Education, clean-up events, enforcement, containment - it’s going to take all of us.

The city has unveiled a new round of updates to OneStop, its online permitting and code enforcement data system. OneStop now offers residents mapping and real time data in their neighborhoods about building permits, zoning applications, code enforcement cases, condemned and dead-end properties, and rental registration. 

Representatives with the Department of Permits, Licenses, and Inspections joined us for June Let’s Talk to explain how to use this new tool.

For the first time in its more than 231-year history, Pittsburgh is undertaking a comprehensive plan: a road map for the city’s future. May’s Let’s Talk meeting will cover the engagement process, what a comprehensive plan entails, why it’s needed, how it will relate to the Oakland Plan, and the impact on the Oakland community.

On Wednesday, May 21st at 6 p.m., representatives from the Department of City Planning joined us to discuss the plan process and how you can participate.

March 2025 Let's Talk: Bike and Pedestrian Safety Along Bates Street

Oakland neighbors have felt unsafe crossing Bates Street for years, at every intersection along its length. Members of two student organizations at Pitt have recently been collaborating to gather data and study the street’s design – and they have ideas to share with the community and City planners. This conversation is especially significant as PennDOT prepares to launch a major widening project on Bates Street below the Boulevard. Join us to meet Pitt Complete Streets and the Urban Planning Club, and bring your concerns and ideas!

February 2025 Let's Talk: Tour Oakland’s Newest Creative Space

February’s Let’s Talk community meeting will be at Oakland’s newest performance space, Haven! Located at 401 Atwood Street, Haven is a new collaborative effort to create a welcoming multi-functional space in the heart of Oakland. We’ll also be joined by the Environmental Services who will update us on the city’s recycling program, new enforcement measures, and the new 311 system, along with the organizers behind another creative Oakland venture, the Oakland DIY skatepark in Panther Hollow.

Join us on Wednesday, February 19th in person or online at 6 pm to meet the organizers behind these projects, tour the Haven space, and share ideas for how these initiatives can serve Oakland residents.
